David S. Johanson, Chairman of the United States International Trade Commission (USITC or Commission), announced that Jeremy Wise has been named Director, Office of Industry and Competitiveness Analysis (ICA), at the USITC. Mr. Wise will direct the work of the agency’s industry experts and economists in ICA and support the Commission in its role as adviser to Congress and the President on international trade matters.
Since he arrived at the USITC in 2006, Mr. Wise has held numerous positions throughout the agency. He started at the Commission in ICA, which at that time was the Office of Industries, as an International Trade Analyst. His time in ICA included a detail assignment to the Office of Investigations. As a Division Chief and then Office Director in the Office of Analysis and Research Services (OARS), Mr. Wise’s efforts were significant factors in the successful growth of that office. As Associate Director of Operations, he managed agencywide performance and data governance as both the agency’s Performance Improvement Officer and Chief Data Officer.
Mr. Wise holds a Master of Arts degree in International Trade Policy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Central Washington University. Before joining the Commission Mr. Wise served as a Persian Farsi and Japanese linguist for the U.S. Army.
The USITC is an independent, nonpartisan, quasi-judicial federal agency that investigates and makes determinations in proceedings involving imports claimed to injure a domestic industry, violations of U.S. intellectual property rights, or other unfair methods of competition in connection with imported goods; provides independent analysis and information on tariffs, trade, and competitiveness to the President and the Congress; and maintains the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
