  • Foreign investments in Chinese computer manufacturing and growth in the U.S. computer market led to an $11.8 billion rise in U.S. imports of computer hardware and peripherals from China.
  • Foreign direct investment in China from other East Asian countries contributed to the $7.4 billion growth in U.S. imports of cell phones and other consumer electronics from China.
  • Rapid expansion in China’s export sector has created demand for U.S. exports to China of manufacturing equipment and intermediate goods used in export processing.
